Kris Cox

A visual artist working in a number of genres in his studio in Basalt, Colorado, Cox is originally from Los Angeles, California. He received a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College, and an MFA in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has had more than 50 solo exhibitions, including several in each of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle,  Santa Fe, and San Francisco.  His work is in many prestigious collections, among others,  LA County Museum of Art, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art,  Oakland Art  Museum, and Laguna Art Museum.  Cox is always attempting to make work that seduces the viewer from a  distance, and upon close examination, rewards the viewer with a deeper aesthetic, nuanced, visual and sensual experience. These pieces are made with  processes that are uniquely the Artist's from twenty years experience.  The Schemata series features  the layering, incising, drilling and filling, sanding and resanding of pigmented wood putties secured on wood panel and steel frame.  His new series, Botanicus Mysteria features photo-based images combined with a beeswax surface, which will have one or several collage elements; fabric, paper, pigmented wood putty. These sophisticated integral surfaces are patinated with asphalt emulsion washes and burnished.  More information about the works and the artist can be found at Kris Cox .
